Jonathan Burrows

Jonathan Burrows‘ main focus now is an ongoing series of duets with the composer Matteo Fargion, which have gained an international reputation and continue to tour widely including to Sydney, Australia where we sat down at Critical Path to talk about:

  • making dances
  • being a ballet dancer
  • photo shoots in the mustang
  • gentrification
  • late capitalism
  • creating iconic pieces
  • cultural dances
  • commercialisations of dance being different from art as practise
  • interconnected communities
  • dance being a material artform
  • writing, translating and reading scores (but those not being the subject of the work)
  • dancing as a parallel practise
  • hiphop dance culture
  • hiphop as a political form
